Hello Dirk,
I too started playing at a later age. Actually I restarted again because I
had played in school but it was more than 20 years when I restarted. I
started with a plastic Selmer Bundy. I then went to a wooden Selmer
intermediate model. In less than 1 year I bought a Buffet R-13. I do not
regret it . If I had problems I knew they were mine and not the instrument. I
was more motivated to practise and when I played in the community band I felt
better when I took a "Professional" instrument out of the case. I felt that I
was more serious. I also could tell the difference in all 3 instruments.
Today I travel a lot. I have a B-12 that I take with me when I travel. I like
it but when I am home and play the R-13 I am much happier. But I will say
that I think the mouthpiece makes more difference than the instrument. (I
expect this to start a thread or at least receive a few flames. Go ahead, I
am conditioned by now.)
