I have Eaton clarinets. My Bb was one of the first instruments Peter Eaton
manufactured using the equipment (sorry, I'm totally ignorant about the
technical terminology) he purchased from Boosey & Hawkes. These clarinets are
wide bore instruments, equivalent to the old B & H 10-10's. I was replacing one
of the latter, which had been discontinued and wanted the sound of English
clarinets (No comments, please!!!). The instrument I purchased had been custom
made for a player in one of our major orchestras. He played it for about 6
months and then decided he wanted something different. I tried 4 instruments
(about all there were, at that time!) and selected this one. I've been very
pleased with both instruments, though I can't say I spend much time agonising
over my set-up - once I've chosen a component, I just get on and play it. Emma
Johnson played Eatons, in her early recordings but I think I heard that she has
now changed to Buffets.
