Reading the mail regarding tone quality vs material and finished reminded
me of a Selmer Alto sax that was the property of the 234th AGF Band in
Manila during WW II

This was a fine instument how ever it was CHROME plated. It was a very
dead sounding insrument. I stripped the horn down and had the plating
removed down to the brass by local people. It looked horrible with out
a protective finish but who cared!

It then sounded great.I used it for several years until the war ended
and I returned home.
