Wrong, Jerry. If you count _players_ on a ship (each machine on a ship
contributes to the overall vibration on the ship) there were many
more, each contributing it's own set of fundamentals and harmonics
(yes, there were multiple fundamentals on many pieces of equipment
where shafts were running at different speeds in the same piece of
machinery).

Our (my) job was to create a sound from the entire set of major
machinery that approached white noise by using <censored> isolators
and <censored> maskers (I have no idea what's been declassified
in the last 18 years).

As a by-product, we were able to predict bearing failure and
impeller life on pumps via acoustic properties. Sometimes from
miles away.
