I have both systems. The quality is, to my ears equal. There are those
"golden ear" people who will hear the compromise the the Mini Disc has built
into it.
The DAT is much fast than a cassette at locating a selection you wish to hear
but the Mini is instant. The Mini Disc is as fast (almost) as a CD in
locating a selection. The Mini Disc allows you to re-arrange the program it
contains very easily. If you are recording a Mini and change your mind about
a selection or a program order you can change it instantly.
My DAT machine now is idle - the mini disc runs daily. I'm transfering older
cassettes to mini and they sound wonderful.
Get a mini
