Another tidbit about the problems of recording upper harmonics.....

Recently, there has been a move to record with higher sampling and
bit-rates. 24 bit, 96 kHz is becoming very popular in many high-end
studios. I have heard rumors that they are also experimenting with a 192
kHz sampling rate deck. Remember 2 times the highest frequency picked up
is the sampling rate. Therefor: 96K recording picks up to 48 kHz tones
and the 192K picks up to 96K sound. These were developed because of that
exact argument. Harmonics extend far above the range of human hearing and
this affects the timbre of the sound. Of course, Mics usually top out at
about 20 kHz with their pick-ups......
