Subj: Vandoren to stop making crystal m/pcs.

Jean-Paul Gauvin from Vandoren is here in Montreal for a few days. A couple
of things he said
that I thought would be of interest to this forum were:

- Vandoren plans to halt production of crystal mouthpieces. He said the
volatile nature of the
crystal is too much of a headache.

- The cane used in Vandoren reeds comes from Argentina, Spain and France, not
only from the Var region of France.

- As mentioned by some readers of this forum, the dimensions of a particular
cut of reed (ie
V12, WhiteMaster, etc) are supposedly the same for every strength. That is to
say that a 2 1/2
is the same thickness as a 4 but the cane is less dense and therefore plays
like a 2 1/2.
