Subj: Compitition amongst friends--- HELP!

Last year, when I was in eighth grade, I started playing my clarinet
again after a year's break. My very good friend, who happened to be first
chair, was both encouraging and inspiring. We went to music camp together;
she got fourth chair and I got sixth.
Now we're in ninth grade and I have managed to get a seat above her. I
was hoping things would remain the same between us, but since she assumes
this means I'm better than her our musical relationship hasn't been as fun or
rewarding. We are still really good friends, but how can I get our musical
environment to be less competitive and more musical? How can I help her
realize that being a seat or two above doesn't always mean you're a better
player?
