I think he only meant that 63mm would be ridiculous for him on his horn. It
did not sound like sarcasm or ridicule to me.

I have always believed that if you can see the cork, it is too much. It could
possibly compromise the seal between the barrel and upper joint. Also the
joint might be less secure. It could wobble or even come apart. Of course
that would be a pretty rare thing and would require pulling the joint a lot.
