Hopefully now the dust has started to settle on the "which clarinet
brand is best" war that has been going on for a little while on here. One
must ask, "what have we learned here?" If we didn't learn anything than this
was all in vein.
What I learned is that deciding on a clarinet is a personal choice. I
believe that we all independantly develop a concept of tone and it is good to
try out all of the brands: Leblanc, Selmer, Yamaha, Buffet, Howarth. What ever
fits your concept of tone is what is right for you. I personally like the
Leblancs, the Yamahas and the Howarth myself because they have tonal characteristics
that I like. To one is the definitive brand isn't right because you then are saying
that you have the definitive concept of tone over all others which is kind of arrogant.
If all you know and all your teacher's have known are the R-13s, get bold and
try some other things. The idea of "don't knock it till you've tried it" comes
to mind here.
I have learned that we do have varying levels of maturity on here and
comments like "apology regected", "up yours" and the effervescent (sparkling
bubbly but basically full of gas) "don't buy a CRAP-INTOSH" really don't add
much to this forum. If you are going to give an opinion, explain it somewhat.
This is a place for opinions and the exchange of ideas.....that is why we are
here for the most part, but there really isn't a reason to get our underwear in
a bind over someone else's opinion and fireing off a profanity to 800 people.
That is what I have learned here by watching all of this. maybe someone
else has a different take on it. I don't know and would love to hear other
opinions on this. Meanwhile I am going to go bury myself in a practice room
for awhile again.
