Michael,

What you say rings true with me. The sad fact is that PCs have always been
cheaper and in general I've gotten more for my money.

When I was on sabbatical leave in Versailles the lab where I worked was entirely
Mac based. I found the system pretty much a dream to use and one went
up the learning curve pretty fast. The company showed its enlightenment when
it offered one Apple computer to every school in California (made very good
business sense as well).

I think that it is still too soon to decide if the company has fallen on
irreversible hard times but it certainly doesn't look good.

If there were ads in the paper offering equivalent Mac power for the same price
as I paid for my Gateway 2000, I most likely would have bought a Mac. But now
I'd be locked into a PC standard at work and a Mac at home which makes even
less sense every time I worry about how much of my life I spend in front of
screen now trying to fix compatibility problems.
