<but feel that there are very few people who could be truly
qualified to give it. The speed of a performance is a great observation
for those of us with our pocket metronomes, but don't we all want to find
some fault with a great talent to make ourselves feel a little bit bigger?>

Jennifer, believe me, I am qualified to give my own subjective feelings
about a performance. For me to agree with Mr. Morales' interpretation
solely because of his stature in the musical world and the assumption that
he cannot do anything wrong would, for me, be mindless idol worship. And,
as I pointed out before, the character of a work can be enormously changed
by a slight variation in tempo. Pick the one you like. I chose mine.

<As for missed soft
tones, etc... reed players' lives depend on those stubborn chunks of wood
and how they will react from one situation or one minute to the next. No
one has control over everything!>

Of course I understand about reeds, but for whatever reason, I believe that
at Mr. Morales' level, it just shouldn't happen. As I said in my initial
post, something seemed wrong with his reed- it seemed too hard as it had an
airy undertone. Can anybody comment on that?
