I majored in music ed quite some time back, took a 15+ years sabbatical
in playing/teaching, and am now finding myself scrambling to catch up
with clarinet practices/techniques I was never taught--vibrato,
double/triple tonguing, circular breathing--I really appreciate the
wonderfully informative articles Sneezy has on these. I also do not
remember much attention given to working on intonation in the
instruction I received, other than being urged to match other players'
pitches in ensemble/band settings. (One possible reason--tuners were
very expensive back then!) My questions are--
1. In what ways do you clarinet teachers work with your students on
developing good intonation?
2. Can you recommend a satisfactory tuner in the under $100 range?
TIA
