I've played a Bob Scott barrel which has an inverse bore for a while
now, and have found that it gives the sound a bit more warmth and ring
to it as well as improving the intonation between the twelfths. However
I stopped using it because it too greatly compromised the intonation of
the upper clarion register making my A, Bb, B, and C a little low. This
could be because of my particular setup, this particualr barrel or just
me. But when those notes have a tendency to be sharp with most clarinet
players I felt I needed a little more flexiblity, especially when I was
playing with other people. Also when I went back to a normal taper I
was able to get a more focused sound whereas on the Scott barrel getting
a very focused sound was more difficult.
