1.) A recent posting indicated that grenadilla, ebony and African
Blackwood are different names for the same wood. Should Mpinco also
be included in that list?
2.) A recent article in the Ricerside (CA) Press-Enterpeise stated
that a nasty weed (The Weed from Hell) called Orundo was choking up
our stream beds. It is a giant cane that sometimes grows 6 inches
in a day and grows 15 to 20 feet tall. It reproduces from parts of
stalk that float downstream. It is noxious because it fills the wash
areas and sucks up large quantities of precious water. Millions of
dollars are being appropriated to eradicate it. On the flip side
there are some products made from it, fibreboard, furniture,
sweeteners and ethanol.
The article stated that it is also the world's only source of
natural clarinet reeds. Is this true?????
