The idea behind starting beginning clarinetists on 1 or 1 1/2 reeds
is simple and easy to understand. The early learner has enough
work just becoming familiar with the clarinet. When it is time
to increase the reed strength will be obvious because the student
will be overblowing the instrument. And the reason he will be
overblowning is on account of his newly developed embrochure.
