Look, I never said that long tones were necessarily bad or that good players
couldn't possibly find use in them. I was originally responding to the
suggestion that one must play long tones every day. We often hear about
things we "must" do in order to play the clarinet well. Some reasons have
been given for the "need" for long tones. Many of these were analogies. .
.analogies are fine as far as they go, but they don't provide specific
technical details on WHY something is good.
