<< Chris--

Your comment about the tone quality of the Leblanc Concerto vs. the Leblanc
Opus
is way off the mark and tottally contradictory with your first statement
about
the mechanism. If the difference between the Opus and Concerto is only the
additional left hand Ab/Eb lever on the Opus, and the two horns are
accoustically identical, then the tone quality would be approximately the
same.
The only difference in tone would be due to reeds, the mouthpiece used, and
the
player--who might have preconceived ideas about the differences, and
approaches
each horn differently as a result.

---Well, I have played both horns, and they are basically the same acoustic
wise. But the Concerto is more lyrical, and flexible. My teacher, and
several other people I have talked with, feel the same way. If you read a
Leblanc Clarinet catalogue, they even say so themselves. When i tried both
of them, I ignored the "preconceived ideas". But still came out with the
same result. However, now that i think of it, the Barrels are slightly
different. The opus barrel is an inverted taper bore, while the concerto
isn't. So maybe that is why the results are as they are. Next time, I would
appreciate it if you asked for a little bit of elaboration on my point,
before you automatically assume that my point is way off the mark and wrong.
Thank you.
Chris
