----------------------------------------------------------------------

1) What is Sneezy?
Sneezy is a DEC 3000/600 computer sitting near Detroit, Michigan,
USA, dedicated to the dissemination of clarinet information. Its
real name is sneezy.mika.com [206.250.250.18] or mika18.mika.com.
It is my "regular" workstation.

2) Why is it called Sneezy?
Its predecessor was one of our first computers, which were named
after the 7 dwarfs from Snow White. I had sneezy, which was at
least better than dopey. Since Victor Freyer's original Clarinet
FAQ was moved onto the old machine and people got used to the
name, I decided to keep it around for hysterical reasons.

3) I don't have an Internet account - can I use Sneezy?
There are a number of e-mail services that will return Web pages
to you. From Robert Saltiel: "Here are the 'agoraservers' I
commonly use: (sending "help" in the body of an email to any of
them will return a detailed help message) webmail@-----.ie,
web-mail@-----.jp,
agora2@-----.jp" You can access the databases on
sneezy via waisq@-----.

4) Does Sneezy run the Klarinet list?
NO, no, a thousand times no! Sneezy has a collection of Klarinet
articles posted over the years and a search engine, along with
Web pages created from some of the very interesting postings.
However, I and Sneezy have no official status as regards Klarinet.
I have been known to help out with questions about the the list on
occasion.

6) Do you do all of this?
No, I have help from numerous people around the world - Takashi
Kawai, Stella Page, Georgiana McReynolds, and Eric Dannewitz help
out on a regular basis.

7) Can I contribute?
Please!!! I'm alway looking for new papers, additions to the
databases, and anything else of interest. Send me a note at
music@-----.

8) What do you (Mark Charette) do for a living?
I get to play with computers, mostly on high-end 3D graphics
systems doing bizarre things (both me and the computer :^).

9) How come no one's on the chat page when I try it?
The "chat" page is for fun, and doesn't consume all that much
resource on sneezy. There's no set time for people to check in or
anything like that. I look at it occasionally during the day
and say Hi, and I check on it occasionally during the evening
(after 7:00 PM EDT). If you want to monitor it for long periods
of time, please set the refresh interval to something more like
180 seconds rather than the default.

10) Do you really read all the Guestbook entries?
Yes, I do, and I answer every one that has a valid e-mail address.
I value the entries, as they tell me what's lacking.

11) What makes you an expert?
I'm not, and have never claimed to be, any sort of expert. In fact,
I started playing the clarinet in January, 1997. I do have a lot of
information buried on sneezy (via the Klarinet Archives) and I
probably have the fastest access to it, so I do from time to time
answer questions. Mostly, though, I'd rather point people to the
right area on sneezy to get their questions answered.

12) Where can I find printable clarinet music on the Web?
Sneezy has probably the most comprehensive collection of printable
music out of copyright in http://sneezy.mika.com/clarinet/Music .
Recent works are put on sneezy only by permission of the publisher
and/or composer. See 2.B.h above for the sites that are mirrored.
Please respect the rights of the composers and read the restrictions
on the music that is copyrighted!

Almost all the music requires either Adobe Acrobat Reader 3.0 or a
PostScript printer for printout. The Adobe Acrobat Reader is
available for free at http://www.adobe.com.

13) Why don't you have information on XXXX?
Because there is so much to know and so little time!! If you don't
the information you're looking for on sneezy (and you've checked
find the databases) then asking me to include it is fine; however, if
it will take extensive research then it'll probably never get on
sneezy. If you do the research & send it to me I'll gladly "HTML"ize
it and put it on sneezy (and make sure you get credit).

This is NOT meant to discourage suggestions on making the pages
better or adding new information to sneezy; it's just meant to set
expectations. Some suggestions take minimal time (like asking if
a particular link be added or an interesting Klarinet posting be
presented as a page) and I normally will get something like that
done in a day or so.

14) Why don't you have job listings?
I do - see http://sneezy.mika.com/clarinet/Announcements.html .
That page has recitals, festivals, camps, scholarships, and
jobs. If you know of ones that aren't on the list, just drop me a
line at music@-----.com

15) Why can't I get to http://sneezy.mika.com/clarinet?
If it's down for scheduled (or unscheduled) maintenance, I try to
set up warning that it will be down about 15 minutes before I take
it offline. If it's down for some other reason (bad power cord,
breaker tripped somewhere vital, sprinklers killed it) I try and
post to Klarinet when it's back up. Sneezy's not in any sort of
special area; remember, it's just the workstation on my desk and
I bang on it pretty hard somethimes during the day (compiles,
interactive 3D graphics, ray tracing, and database).

16) Do you get funding for the composition database work?
No, and wouldn't want any. However, the database _may_ see
publication in a few years.

17) How do I add (my name to the Teacher's list, my recital to
the Announcements list, my paper to the Study list, etc.)?
Just send a note to me at music@-----.
