The best way to get good at sight-reading is to sight read. I belong to
my local community band, and we sight read about 20 pieces every month
for concert. While we only prepare about 12, I have already sampled a
good range of music after two seasons.

Don't despair! And, you can always sight-read on your own, which will
improve your skills with the ensemble!
