Those who are in the music education degree program need to learn the
skills - regardless of the salary available coming out. Good teachers are
encouraged and accredited.....we at the university level do not
necessarily have to give them the degree unless they demonstrate the

Absolutely Charles knows what he is talking about. I'll take it one step
further......every person receiving a music ed. degree at the
undergraduate level should have one full semester on each of the
following:

flute
clarinet
trumpet
trombone
percussion
oboe or bassoon
horn or tuba
violin
cello

Anything less is not a good curriculum......and by the way, NO, we do not,
at IWU, offer those.....and it is sad. We are a liberal arts school - and
the curriculum does not allow it. However....outside of that curriculum,
we encourage as much independent study on one or two of these instruments
as possible.
