Let's not forget that the strength of a reed varies greatly by
manufactorer, as well as what mouthpiece you are using, and the
effectiveness of different strengths on it. 4.5 sounds like a lot, and
it may be, however we really need to know more about the
mouthpiece-ligature-reed brand set-up before we can make that kind of
call.

Personally, I use 3.5 Vandoren's with a B45, and my tone is great. I've
tried four's, but my theory at this point is: stick with what works!
