Last year someone recommended the book and CD set called "The Living
Clarinet". The book has a history of the clarinet and description of
great clarinetists and compositions. The CD has several major clarinet
works recorded by famous clarinetists. It is a good overview for a
beginning player. I got one for my 10-year-old goddaughter last year, a
few months after she began learning clarinet. I got it at Tower
Records, but it can also be ordered online from Amazon
(www.amazon.com). The author is Barrie Carson Turner. List price is
$25.00, Amazon sells it for $17.50. Enjoy!
