It depends on what state you are in. I am in Arkansas and was in
All-State the past three years. I always played the scales in two
octaves because to my knowledge, if you played the scales in three
octaves, it could only hurt your scores. You didn't get any extra
points for playing three, so why even take the risk of messing up.
Besides, the prepared material is much more important that the
scales. Hope this helps.
