Subj: fingerings in part

Nothing wrong with fingerings in the part.

It's only common sense to put in fingerings that one uses for practicing
the part.
In actual performance, it helps a little to see the outline of the
fingerings.
So what if someone else sees it!

There are parts that need division of bars, such as the ending of the
Rites of spring by Stravinsky.

There are sixteenths, divided into twos and threes, so that the music
underneath was full of V's
denoting a 2 beat and triangles denoting a 3 beat.

The ending of the Stravinsky is mostly difficult for the conductor.

One story we heard from Ozawa was that Bernstein, had parts for the
Philharmonic, arranged so-that it was in 2/4 or 3/4 (I forget which)
and the orchestra played the accents in the appropriate place.

The story was that Stravinsky heard this Concert and came over to
Bernstein after the show to congratulate him on the Rites.
Benstein then told him what he had done with the parts.
Stravinsky just turned around and walked way, apparently not very happy
with that.

Why did he have to tell him?
