The music audition committees have in front of them during auditions is
almost always cut from full parts. Since excerpt books have mistakes and
things missing, having complete parts available is important when taking
auditions. Also, many orchestras do not specify bar numbers, thus leaving you
responsible for the entire work in question. It has happened to me several
times, a passage from an obscure section of an otherwise common work asked in
an audition.
For high school, the books should be sufficient. Parts can be purchased for
most audition repertoire directly from Kalmus in Florida. In the case of
Mandarin and some other newer works, you must obtain illegal copies from
somewhere.
