This Daphnis discussion is old, but here's a great trick I learned from Ron
deKant my freshman year for the 1st section...

1) Take a piece of Vandoran reed guard and shove under the left hand C#
lever so that the pad remains closed. You'll have time to yank it out
later...

2) This is for the truly dedicated... Solder (not permanent) a small
extention from pad cup of the L.H. D that extends to where the first
finger can hold down the pad and cover the first hole. This acts like a sax
bisque key and plays Eb/Bb similar to the 1/1 fingering! Ron had this
extension added permanently to his clarinet!
