Basses with one register hole, such as my own Noblet, have a B flat
mechanism something like this; Reform-Boehm soprano instruments have
something of the same kind too, I think. There have been some previous
messages
on the Mazzeo mechanism, of which I have no first-hand knowledge at all;
this is based on a quite different idea.
*The author of "The art of clarinetistry", whose name I forget, also
devised an improved B flat mechanism, and it got manufactured to a limited
extent.
