Subj: Mendelssohn 5: added trill?

In an upcoming performance of Mendelssohn 5, I've been asked by the
conductor to add a trill in the next-to-last measure of the scherzo. A
trip to two editions of the score, one recording (London Phil/Haitink),
and the archive on Sneezy hasn't turned up any good reason to do this.
Does anyone have any information about this? Is there any good reason
(besides continued employment) to add this trill?
