When I had a root canal done a couple of years ago, I brought my
CD player & headphones along to ease the pain (if I concentrate
on the music I can block out lots of things). My doctor said that
she'd seen _lots_ of people doing this.

As the needle was poised to go into my gum, I let loose with
"Also Sprach Zarathrusta". Thank God she only put the needle in
_after_ she stopped laughing ("How appropriate!" was her comment :)
