Greetings to all on Klarinet!
Please bear with me, as I am new to al of this. I have been reading along
and find the conversations interesting, although perhaps a bit too
technical for me at this point.
I am a very green clarinet player (about a month), and also green to
reading music in general. I am also 44. I am hoping to find a cure for the
problem i seem to be having. The person i am studying with is a fine
musican, although perhaps not on a high level of teaching skills. By this i
mean university level or beyond, into professional. The problem I have is a
very sore lower lip. Is this normal for beginners? The inside of my lip
feels like I burned it with some too-hot coffee. Also, I am getting some
terific pains in my right thumb. Is it possible I am applying too much
downward force with my head and neck? Is this also a *newbie* thing? I tend
to be rather tense i my musculature and movements anyway, so maybe this is
my problem. I have asked my teacher about my lip and he told me that I have
to develop a callus.
Any comments would be very welcome. Thank you.

Dave
