I played for both Revelli and Reynolds, although I didn't play in
Revelli's band at Mich. when he was still teaching there....only later
when he came back to guest conduct. The styles were very different, but
one must remember that Revelli was trained and taught during the time that
Toscanni, Reiner, Szell, etc. were running pro orchestras the same way.
It was simply the way things were done.......that's why people took it.

While I respect Professor Reynolds very much, there were times when the
band did not play well because he did not go down the line - but we loved
band, so......! There were times when the band played exceedingly
well too....always give and take in a philosophy.
