I use a reed knife for all of my reed adjusting, and it works very, very
well. You won't gouge the cane if you have a really (double reed players)
sharp knife. The "tearing fibers out" are only done if you use a steak
knife to do the adjusting.

Uh oh, I guess I better stop using a knife then!!!! ;) No...I believe
