Kristin, there are many kinds of musicians and your brother's
definition is extraordinarily restrictive.

There are performing musicians, creative musicians (composers fall
into this category), scientific musicians (musicologists), and
even musicians who no longer play.

To state that a musician must be able to compose is to establish
a definition that is both arbitrary and unrealistic.
