Yes, you need an A clarinet and a Bb clarinet, and your life for the next
few weeks will be much easier if you can find an A clarinet to use. This is
one of those pieces-along with most Shostakovitch-that (whether or not you
find transposing parts musically unacceptable) you should try your hardest
to avoid having to transpose from A to Bb. BTW, it's a very ambitious piece
for a youth orchestra to play. It must be a very good orchestra.
