Goodness no! A crack must be taken to a reliable repairman who will pin the
crack, or suggest that the entire joint be replaced (if the case is severe).
Sometimes what appears to be a crack is only a surface check that will no
way affect the horn's playing qualities.
Make sure you always clean out your horn, apply bore oil regularay, keep it
in its case and case cover. If the weather is extremely raw, tuck the case
under your overcoat. Also, never blow warm air into a cold horn. Let it
warm up in your hands first. These will help prevent further cracking.
