Because I am interested in swing and jazz, I find myself drawn to the
older Selmer clarinets.

My understanding of their product line history is that Selmer replaced
its "Balanced Tone" with the "Centered Tone", then the Series 9 and 9*.

What changes occured in each succeeding line? What changes produced the
9*?

Were there years when particularly good instruments were made? Or more
importantly are there instruments which should be avoided (I know many
of you believe only those models beginning with "Selmer" should be
avoided, but restrain yourselves, please).

I am told that the key/tone hole placement on Selmers requires a tad
more stretch than the more closely configured Buffets and LeBlancs. Can
someone comment?

Thanks,
Michael "can of worms" Jones

P.S. I have reviewed the information available in the Klarinet Archives.
