I happen to be an engineer for a manufacturer of custom designed heat
exchangers. If we want to keep the manufacturing costs reasonable, it is
absolutely necessary to allow reasonable manufacturing variations. Regardless of
the material, a diameter that has a nominal diameter of 0.574" that has a range
of 0.571" to 0.575" is EXCELLENT manufacturing control. This is only
a variation of two thousandths of an inch from nominal. If they tried to reduce
this variation further, costs would skyrocket and none of us on this list could
afford the product.
