Melanie,
Just a few suggestions:

1. Bennett, Richard Rodney. _Sonatina_. Novello, 1982.
Three movements, 7'length, tonal, no "avante garde" techniques.

2. Okumura, Koh. _Two Pieces_. Southern Music.
Mainly pentatonic, fairly slow and tonal. Freedom of interpretation
regarding rubato. Fun and different. Fairly easy - 5'.

3. Osborne, Willson. _Rhapsody_. Peters.
Standard work that requires fluid transitions of tempo (as indicated in
the rhapsody title). Tonal, no avante garde tech. Fairly technical in
spots. 5'

4. Mayer, John. _Raga Music_. Lengnick.
9 short movements (#3 is titled "Sunrise"), tonal but based on different
scale patterns related to the individual ragas). No avante garde tech.
Fun but technically challenging to capture the Indian raga styles. 8'.

5. Telemann, G.P. arr./ Forrest. _Fantasies 1-12_. Southern, 1989.
Arrangements by Sidney Forrest of the flute pieces. Good for style and
studying these important solo flute works. Some technical passages, but
nothing beyond Baerman or even Albert books.

I have even performed the Stravinsky _Pieces_ as solo works in church -
2nd movement Prelude, 1st movement Offertory, and 3rd for the Postlude.
This was in a fairly conservative Lutheran church and they didn't throw me
out after it was over.

Good luck.
