"Minor pad damage" would be slightly increased wear over a long period of
time (requiring replacement a couple of months early). "Minor key damage"
would be slight bending that might occur on the RARE occasion when one did
NOT use sufficient cork grease and forced the issue. I have not noticed
any of either on my own clarinets. And either one is infinitely preferable
to catastrophic failure of the tenon socket.
