I find this to be a much more interesting question than the one regarding
the best piece for clarinet.

I love the following recordings, each with clarinet solo or prominenet
clarinet parts:

Mozart Serenades (octets for winds): Eb, C# minor, and, of course, the
Gran Partitta (Bb)

Dvorak Serenade for Winds, I believe Op. 44 (or is it 22? I always get it
mixed up with the string serenade).

Copland Concerto - David Shifirin - or - Benny Goodman (I like the latter
because it has all of the other pieces on it written for Goodman!)

Brahms Trio - Shifrin with Golub and Kaplan
Brams Quintet - Leister or Shifrin

Mozart Quintet - Sabina Meyer also has the Intro Theme and Variations for
Clarinet and String Quartet

I guess I am at five now.....

but it would be tough....some other notables: Robert Spring's Dragon's
Tongue (but it is with band, and I get tired of the band part of
it...also, there are some "clams" in the band portion) - Bob is amazing.
I think it was nominated for a Grammy

Shifrin or Pay playing Mozart Concerto.....I think both have the Mozart
Quintet

Notice the lack of von Weber????

So much to choose from, so few to get to take to the desert island!
