Whoops! Now it's a saxophone question, but perhaps some of the Klarinet
people have an answer.

Differing instructors have told me that one should tongue the clarinet with
the tip of the tongue to the tip of the reed/mouthpiece. But that with the
saxophone, especially the tenor, the proper procedure is to tongue using the
area just back of the tip, still touching the tip of the reed. The
explanation given had to do with the size of the respective mouthpieces and
the amount of mouthpiece placed in the mouth.
