Subj: Anchor Tonguing and Articulation...

Even though I don't anchor tongue, I feel that after seeing so many people
not looking favorably at anchor tonguing that I need to mention one player:
Peter Hadcock.

Pete was my teacher for my freshman year at Eastman (until he died) after
he left the Boston Symphony. He was an extraordinary player of all
clarinets and saxophone. (Heck, he was in the BSO for something like 25
years). Anyways, he anchor-tongued. I also know several other players
that are both students and professionals who anchor tongue and have *great*
articulation.

What it comes down to is anchor tonguing is another technique for
articulation. Like all tonguing, you need to practice it a lot to make it
sound good. You also need to pay just as much attention to tongue
position, etc... Most of the people that I know who anchor tongue have
the fastest (and cleanest) articulation of anybody I know.
