As the A clarinet is sometimes considered the "mate" to the Bb, so is the D
clarinet to the Eb. There is only about an inch difference in size between
the D and the Eb clarinet (the D being about 20 1/2 inches and the Eb a
little less than 19 1/2 inches). So the best choice in my most humble
opinion - and possibly the easiest choice - would be to play the D part on
the Eb clarinet, transposing down 1/2 step.

My kingdom for a D clarinet!
