This summer I had two German children as students. The 14 year old boy
was studying clarinet with me. He had had 6 months of lessons in
Germany before they came to the US. When he began with me, I asked him
if the clarinet he rented here was the same, key-wise, as his German
clarinet, and he said yes. He knew the fingerings, so I believe him.
His teacher was Czech, I think, though. He was having the lessons in
Germany. Now that I think about it, that isn't very good evidence, is
it? Sorry.

I was curious about his playing though. His emb. was so soft, and
therefore his high notes were sooooo flat. When I started to change
this, he said that he was doing what his teacher said....??? We changed
him, and I sent him back a pretty good player, I think. I'm anxious to
hear from him to see if he continued, or if the teacher was upset with
the changes?!

Just my 2 cents.
