Ralph Thiers writes, in part:

>About 5 years ago a music store owned by a friend of mine aquired two
>Buffet clarinets made entirely of a plastic that is as clear as glass. The
>keys are bright copper plated.

(cut)

>Why were they discontinued -- am I the only
person who sees them as beautiful?

In October '94 I saw clarinets as you describe them in a music store in
Germany. They were Boehm system, but I didn't look to see the brand.

A separate thought about that visit - Most of the clarinets I saw in music
stores in Germany were Boehm system and only a small number were Oehler
types. It seems pretty clear, however, that well-known German players,
whether soloists or orchestral players, use Oehler.

Are the non-classical players in Germany using Boehm?

Is the younger generation of German classical players still studying on
Oehler?
