Benny Goodman (blazing technique and relatively even eighths) and Artie
Shaw (better tone and those nifty glissandos) could make your list. Also
Harry James (VERY distinctive style, with warm, broad vibrato), Jimmy
Dorsey (I HATE his too-fast vibrato, but it is distictive!), and Count
Basie (minimalist/elegant). Can't really argue against your choices,
especially Tommy Dorsey (great tone, incredible smoothness) and Armstrong
(the father of 'em all!).
