Why not? Not all wood is expensive, and not all marching leads to
crax. I have used my finest clarinets (Selmer 9 Eb, 10 Bb and Buffet
R13 Bb and Prestige bass, LeBlanc model 990 bass) for outdoor work
consistently for over 20 years, I only pull out the plastic crap
instruments in the cold or rain.

The key, I think, is to keep them warm while waiting on the bandstand.

No crax yet!!
