Stacy:
B & H made the Edgware over a long period - certainly more or less
throughout the 50s & 60s. It was the "bottom-but-one" instrument in their
range, and came in both B flat (bearable) and A (atrocious) varieties.
I remember borrowing one before I had an A of my own to play in the Dvorak
cello concerto, and the intonation was so bad (playing *second* clarinet)
that the soloist made remarks about it. So I had to borrow an R13 instead.
I don't know what wood Edgwares were made from, but they tended to be
rather rough
looking.
