oh, in 1967, my first clarinet was a metal Holton. (it's now a prized lamp!),
which leaked like a sieve. How I ever got a sound out of it was a miracle.
After 3 years of that one, I got to 'move up' to a 25 yr old Penzel Mueller.
6 years later, I wheedled my folks into a Selmer series 9 that they could
ill afford and I'll love them forever for it. 4 years later I got my Buffet
R-13, paid for it myself (good deal) and still play it 20 years later...
have all 4 horns, still, for sentimental value and my husband plays the
selmer for jazz.

my apologies if this wasn't what you intended...nice thread , though.
